Modern

notes:
 I traded in my soul
for a pamphlet of catch phrases
this is the modern era
turned my back on tender embraces

I rented out the the rooms
I'd saved for human connecting
to fill up some emptiness
stop the mirrors from reflecting

I don't feel my fingers
since I had the nerves severed
Tell me what my purpose is
and make it sound clever

If feeling safe is virtuous
by all means keep the door closed
back me in the corner
paint up to my toes

Broken rules and conventions
will stay unconfessed
and all my thoughts and emotions
are illegal to be expressed

I can't feel my heart
it's like my arteries were severed
If you give me a purpose
Please try to make it sound clever
