Note from Derek:
I heard this busker in the BART station playing guitar and
performing Johnny Cash tunes, with a spot-on imitation of
the singer's voice. I was thinking about doing a song in
that style for Song A Day while riding home on BART and
reading an article in the SF Weekly about an upcoming Busby
Berkely film festival, and this is the result of those
influences.
He spent his whole life working
At the DMV
He had no inclination
To start a family
He lived inside a cubicle
With harsh fluorescent lights
He stayed in his apartment
And prayed aloud each night
"Bring on the dancing girls
Oh, bring on the dancing girls
From my favorite movie scenes
Of Busby Berkeley dance routines
Bring on the dancing girls
Oh, bring on the dancing girls"
All he ever wanted
Was to see some dancing girls.
At his retirement party
He sat there all alone
It was the only party
That he had ever thrown
He packed up his belongings
And shouted out goodbye
When all he got was silence
He offered this reply:
"Bring on the dancing girls
Oh, bring on the dancing girls
From my favorite movie scenes
Of Busby Berkeley dance routines
Bring on the dancing girls
Oh, bring on the dancing girls"
All he ever wanted
Was to see some dancing girls.
